About Us

The Saint Paul Board Game Group isn't particularly novel. For over a decade we've held the fairly reasonably belief that good games are better with good people, and it seems like folks tend to agree!

We host multiple events each month at various venues around the city for a whole host of reliable regulars and fresh faces. Some tables are full of quick social games and laughter, while others lean into deeper strategy and more 'serious' play. Either way, the vibe is relaxed, welcoming, and inclusive.

You don’t need to know how to play anything before you show up; we can teach! You don’t need to bring games; we’ve got plenty! And you certainly don’t need to know anyone (most people don’t the first time they come by).

For more than a decade the Saint Paul Board Game Group has hosted events at 20+ venues across the city of St. Paul, from bustling breweries and cozy coffee shops to libraries, museums, game stores, and everywhere in between. Every space is unique in its own way, and that variety is part of what keeps our events lively and fresh.

While we've had thousands of people involved in our community over the years and see hundreds of active attendees each month, most of our events welcome between 30-60 folks coming by to play on a regular basis.

FAQs

Can I come alone?

Yes, and many people do! There is nothing we prioritize more than creating a safe, welcoming enviroment where people can show up and be themselves. Whatever your experience level or preferences, we’ll help you find a table and get playing!

Do I need to bring games?

Nope! I always bring a couple dozen approachable titles and other folks bring a wide variety of games to share, so there’s always something to play. That said, you’re absolutely welcome to bring your own favorites if there's something you'd like to teach or get to the table.

What if I don't know how to play?

This group of folks is chock full of some of the best teachers I know. If you aren't familiar with the rules of a game, you'll find friendly, humble, and insightful folks who are happy to bring you up to speed!

Are these events free?

There is no cost to attend these events! I never want there to be a fiscal barrier to entry for folks. Many of our venues generously allow us to use their space at no cost, so if you are able to support the places that make this group a reality, please do!
